In the midst of a thrilling slalom event, the fresh powder snow blowing across the slope is evidence of ideal skiing conditions at Winter Park high in the Rockies, but less than two hours from Denver, the location is a skiers paradise.

Winter in the Rocky Mountains had come to mean some of the finest skiing in America.  The Berrier Hughes Memorial stands near the ski trail built by him at Winter Park in 1939, beginning much of the greatest skiing in the country right in this area.

Climbing is fun, too at Winter Park, on the Lower Hughes Lift.  Five seperate lifts give skiers a choice of seventeen runs and slopes, where most of the thrills are in skimming downhill through fresh powder snow.

Near US Highway 40 are seventeen different tuns and slopes at Winter Park, ranging up to two miles in length and 1800 feet of vertical descent.  Five tows save climbing.  A real challenge for every skier, from beginner to expert.

The New Swiss Comet Lift (left) and the Lower Hughes Lift save slimbing to the top.  These high capacity T-bar lifts can pull thousands uphill every hour so that most of the day is enjoyed skiing downhill in beautiful powder snow.

With Beginner's slope and Practice Slope Lift nearby, the Ski School is in full session at Winter Park.  Excellent instruction is available for one lesson or a complete course, with the Ski Shop ready to supply every equipment need.

Every need and pleasure is anticipated at Balcony House, where the skier can warm and watch the surrounding slopes in comfort.  It houses the information center.  Adjacent are the well stocked ski shop and pleasant restaurant.

Gay, challenging flags mark the course of a major slalom event on the slopes of Winter Park, as a trainload of skiers arrive via the Moffat Tunnel from denver, only an hour and forty minutes away.

Many great ski runs of Winter Park are seen in panorama across US Highway 40, which leads directly to the ski area.  On a firm base and almost daily, fresh powder snow, experts and beginners alike find thrills to suit every taste.

One of seventeen alternate runs and slopes, Lower Hughes Run adjoins the New Swiss Comet Lift (left) and the Lower Hughes Lift, which start thousands of skiers to the top, minutes after their arrival at Winter Park.
