Living Memorial Park

Brattleboro, VT

On my way home, the day after visiting a friend in Vermont  this winter, I took a ride past the Living Memorial Park in Brattleboro, VT.  After crossing the classic old single lane covered bridge the ski hill and t-bar came into view.  It is at an area that is a year round community recreation center.  In the summer there is a pool for public use and there are also fields and wooded grove like areas for use in the other seasons.  The ski area is operated by the town of Brattleboro.  It is a small area, relatively speaking, but seems to be a nice area for families and beginners.  It is an inexpensive alternative to other nearby areas.

All of the people at the area that day seemed to be having a great day.  I had my ski equipment in the car as I was supposed to ski that day at Haystack with a friend, but it was extremely windy and cold at Haystack and my friend who was leaving for Utah at the end of the week, was fighting a cold and decided it would be best not to ski.  I geared up and went over for a ticket.  The tickets were extremely inexpensive, though I do not remember the exact cost at this time.

Families were having a grand old time here as you will hear and see in this video clip

The bottom lift shed at the area also serves as the ticket booth.  There is no lodge at the area and all people gear up at their cars, children usually leave home ready to hit the hill.  Sledding and tubing is allowed on the side of the hill closest to the road.  The whole area is fenced in so no one will enter the road.

I visited the area last summer and took some pictures, when I locate them I will also post them.  The bottom of the ski hill in the summer is a fences in ball field.  The t-bars are removed from the cable and put into storage.  It's great to see a community run area like this.  It's important for families to have inexpensive alternatives to the big mountains.
